Hippolyte Blancard, 1887–1889
Hippolyte Blancard photographed the Eiffel Tower in its final months of construction, its spire nearly topped out above Paris. When it opened for the Exposition Universelle of 1889 it was the tallest structure in the world. The print is in the Musée Carnavalet in Paris.
