Eiffel Tower Rising, from the Île aux Cygnes
Hippolyte Blancard, 1887–1889
Hippolyte Blancard photographed the Eiffel Tower climbing skyward from the Île aux Cygnes in the Seine while it was being built for the Exposition Universelle of 1889. Bare trees frame the iron tower as it rises above the riverbank. The print is in the Musée Carnavalet in Paris.
