Fountain before Hagia Sophia, Istanbul
Félix Ziem, 19th century
Félix Ziem painted Hagia Sophia in Istanbul from the water, with a fountain before the great dome. The church was built by Justinian in 537 and later became a mosque. Ziem painted Constantinople many times after his first visit in the 1850s.
