A Triumphal Procession Through the Arch of Titus
Vinzenz Fischer, 1791
Vinzenz Fischer painted a victorious general's triumphal procession through the Arch of Titus in 1791. A Roman triumph was the highest honor the city could give, a parade of soldiers, captives and spoils along the Via Sacra to the Capitol. Fischer was a Viennese painter of architecture, and the painting is in the Belvedere.
