Resting Figures on the Via Appia

Hilda Lindgren, 1871

Roman Empire

The Swedish painter Hilda Lindgren painted travelers resting on the Via Appia in 1871. The dome of St. Peter's rises on the far horizon beyond the Roman Campagna. The open road and sky fill the canvas with daylight.
