Pilgrims at Kirifuri Waterfall on Mount Kurokami
Katsushika Hokusai, c. 1832
From Hokusai's series A Tour of Waterfalls in Various Provinces, published around 1832. Streams of water split and spread down a cliff in Shimotsuke Province like the fingers of a hand. Small pilgrims climb the rocks at the foot of the falls to look up at them. This impression belongs to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
