A Dutch Flagship and a Fluyt Running into a Mediterranean Harbour
Abraham Beerstraaten, c. 1660
Abraham Beerstraaten painted a Dutch flagship preparing to enter a Mediterranean harbour, around 1660. A galley leaves the harbour in the foreground while a Dutch fluyt also makes for the entrance. Fluyts were widely used by the Dutch in the 17th century as trading ships. The painting is in Royal Museums Greenwich.
