J. Pierpont Morgan by Edward Steichen — large framed print

J. Pierpont Morgan

Edward Steichen, 1903

Great Men

Edward Steichen photographed J. Pierpont Morgan in 1903. Morgan sat for only about three minutes, and the light falling on the arm of his chair made it look like a dagger in his hand, an image many came to see as a symbol of his power. Morgan reorganized railroads, financed the creation of U.S. Steel and General Electric, and in 1907 brought New York bankers together to halt a financial panic. This print is in the Library of Congress.
