The Japanese Footbridge
Claude Monet, 1899
The arched wooden footbridge Monet built over his lily pond at Giverny became one of his signature motifs. In this 1899 view the green bridge spans water crowded with lilies and edged by willows and bamboo. The painting is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
