Gustav Klimt, 1900
Klimt spent his summers on the Attersee, a lake in the Austrian Salzkammergut, and painted its landscapes on square canvases. In this 1900 view the water fills almost the whole picture, with only a thin strip of shore at the top. The painting is in the Leopold Museum, Vienna.
