Almond Blossom

Vincent van Gogh, 1890

Hospitality

Van Gogh painted these almond branches against a blue sky in February 1890 to celebrate the birth of his nephew and namesake, Vincent Willem. Blossoming trees were a symbol of new life, and the bold outlines show the influence of Japanese prints. It is in the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam.
