Tree of Life, Stoclet Frieze cartoon (central part)

Gustav Klimt, 1910–11

Masterpieces

One of the full-size working drawings Gustav Klimt made in 1910–11 for the mosaic frieze in the dining room of the Palais Stoclet in Brussels. The Tree of Life spreads its spiraling branches across the wall, with a black bird perched among them. The mosaic itself was made by the Wiener Werkstätte. The cartoons are in the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna.
