Gustav Klimt painted The Kiss at the height of his Golden Period, using gold leaf among the oils. A couple embraces at the edge of a flowered meadow, wrapped in patterned robes. The Austrian state bought the painting in 1908, and it is in the Belvedere, Vienna.
