Albert Bierstadt, c. 1887
Albert Bierstadt painted this sunset around 1887. A red sun sinks through bare trees and lights a still pond, while two deer stand at the water's edge beside a fallen branch. The oil on canvas, also known as Deer in a Sunset Landscape, is signed lower left and is in a private collection.
